Michel Majerus (b. 1967, Luxembourg, d. 2002; lived and worked in Berlin, Germany) had a brief but prolific career before tragically dying in a plane crash. His synthesis of painting with early digital media and advertisting had left an indelible influence on contemporary painting.
Posthumous museum solo exhibitions include those at MUDAM, Luxembourg; KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin, Germany; Sprengel Museum, Hanover, Germany; CAPC Musée d’art contemporain de Bordeaux, Bordeaux, France; Kunsthaus Graz, Austria; Kunstmuseum Stuttgart, Germany; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, the Netherlands; Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart, Berlin, Germany; Tate Liverpool, United Kingdom. During his life, Majerus had a one-person exhibition at the Kunsthalle Baseland at the 1999 Venice Biennale he created a mural that covered the facade of the Main Pavilion.
